Of course, we all know what LOL and BRB mean. You’ve probably heard of YOLO. But what about NIFOC or GYPO?
Texting and instant messaging is becoming its own language, and there are a staggering number of abbreviations and codes that people are using to communicate succinctly. And because the teenagers of today have grown up digital, they are creating their own symbols specifically to keep their parents in the dark.
P911 is a code warning whoever they’re communicating with not to say too much. It means ‘Parent Alert.’ Similarly, PIR means ‘Parent in the Room, and POS is ‘Parents over shoulder.’
It gets raunchier from there. Those two examples I used in the intro paragraph? NIFOC is ‘Nude In Front Of the Computer’, and GYPO is ‘Get Your Pants Off.’
