The nine countries that have nuclear weapons

File this one under “Why Did I Bring A Kid Into This Terrifying World Again?”

North Korea reportedly conducted its fifth nuclear test today, claiming to have successfully detonated a warhead that could be mounted on ballistic rockets. The explosion apparently set off a 5.3 magnitude earthquake.

According to CNN, the POTUS “warned North Korea that it will face ‘consequences to its unlawful and dangerous actions.’

“He said he spoke to the leaders of South Korea and Japan by phone, and that all three agreed to ‘take additional significant steps, including new sanctions.'”

Well, that’s worked really well, so far, so let’s all relax. I’m kidding. You should totally panic. Because that totally hasn’t worked so far. Also, North Korea flippin’ HATES North America. And now has rocket mounted missiles.

Anyhoodle, the DPRK isn’t the only country with nuclear weapons. There are in fact nine such countries in the world, and I stumbled across a list of who they are today.

90 per cent of the world’s nuclear weapons are in the hands of Russia and the USA, while the rest are in France, China, the UK, Pakistan, India and Israel. Here’s a handy-dandy infographic map, courtesy of the Independent  and Statista.

Sleep well tonight.
